Microsoft Profits Up

Microsoft Profits Up!

Microsoft reported their fiscal first-quarter profit where up seating at 2 percent. This is great news for software giant Microsoft. And it’s also great news for the economy. This shows signs that businesses are still showing profits in real bad times. The only bad thing about their profit is that Wall Street was expecting much more. I say, who cares what Wall Street was expecting, you showed a profit. In order for Microsoft to increase their profits for next quarter they will slow down with the hiring. They won’t be replacing retirees just yet. And I read they will cut back on their advertising. To me that sounds like a pretty good idea, this way there will be no layoffs. Now let hope for some other big companies out there to start showing some good quarter results. The more companies show positive results the stock market will bounce back.

Oracle Corp

Oracle Corp!

I just read on Yahoo! that Oracle Corp is now going to be selling computer hardware. If you didn’t know already, Oracle Corp has never sold one piece of hardware since they’ve been in business. They will be selling a database machine and small storage products. I believe the small storage products will be like tape drives and similar drives. I’m not 100 percent sure though, I will be looking into it more. These products main purpose are to help companies get information that have been stored on Oracle’s database software. This move for selling storage products is to free up and reduces space on corporate data servers. The new products will be made by Hewlett-Packard, which will help their bottom line.

Heavy Traffic

Heavy Traffic!

All the major problems on Wall Street have also affected financial web sites. People from around the world have been having trouble logging in to check their accounts. Not only check, but to sell and buy at huge discounts. One of the online brokerage firms, Scottrade Inc had huge volume of trading going on. The only problem was that with some many people logging in, it slowed down their site. This slow down didn’t just affected Scottrade, it affected just about all the online brokerage firms. I had read that these sites where running so slow that 5 to 10 percent of the users couldn’t even gain access to their accounts. That’s a lot of people not being able to access their online accounts. Hopefully things will still turn out ok for the ones that weren’t able to gain access. With new plans coming in from the Fed we won’t have another financial meltdown again.
