Titanic Mementos

Titanic Mementos!

Well it seems that some precious personal belongings are coming up for auction from the Titanic. There’s a lady in London, her name is Millvina Dean, and she’s in need of some money to pay for her nursing home room. She’s the last known survivor of the Titanic sank in 1912. She was two months old when she was lowered in a lifeboat that cold April night. Her family, along with her brother, who was two at the time, were one of the few survivors. Anyway, she will be selling off a suitcase that was full of clothes. The suitcase was given to her and her family as a gift from New Yorkers to help rebuild their lives. I was reading that the suitcase could go as high as $5200 by the end of the auction. If you ask me, she would have a better chance in Las Vegas Nevada then selling off her precious items. Instead of this woman being forced to sell off her items for government should maybe step in and help. I only say this because I was reading that in Britain they have a free health care system for their elderly. Anyway, I’m sure she’ll get the money she needs to continue living in her private room at the private nursing home.

U.S. Mortgage Market

U.S. Mortgage Market!

The U.S. Government took over mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Sunday to help save the economy. This takeover bid could end up costing you and I in the end. If this takeover goes south the taxpayers could be left paying $200 million. Most analysts out there are still not completely sold on the takeover. They think that this still isn’t enough to stabilize the housing market. They believe that there are just still to many vacant homes for sale. The only thing I can think of that will happen is that the 30 year mortgage rates will come down to make it more affordable for home buyers. Here’s what Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson was reported to have said, “taxpayers will get paid back first.” I sure hope so, because at the end of the day taxpayers can’t afford anymore debt. And the only way to pay that debt down is cut programs or raise taxes. Anyway, I truly believe this is a great move.

Meet the Press Tim Russert!

Today, the NBC’s Washington bureau chief and moderator of “Meet the Press,” Tim Russert dead at the age of 58. He has been with the NBC family for 25 years.  He also was the longest-tenured host of the Sunday show “Meet the Press.”  Meet the Press was one of the most watched talk shows of its type.  This was so because he was a true and honest person.  He always asked the hard questions, and made sure he got the answer.  We all watched him because he was someone you could trust.  He will be missed!
