Preliminary Talks

It seems that Chrysler and General Motors are discussing a merger or acquisition between the two. Chrysler, which 80.1 percent is owned by a company called Cerberus, already has a joint venture with GM. I was reading that Cerberus is making a hybrid gas-electric powertrain for GM. They also have for sometime now been talking about a full merger or acquisition. Cerberus, which is a private equity firm already owns 51 percent of GMAC Financial Services. Here’s one of the ways they would like to pull a deal off. Both sides have proposed trading Chrysler to GM in exchange for GM’s remaining 49 percent stake in GMAC. If both side feel this would be a fair trade I say go at it. Unless both sides have the cash on hand to make the acquisition it will never get done. With all the turmoil going on who knows what will happen next. I also wonder how this years 2008 Black Friday will end up. That’s the biggest day for retailers. Anyway, GM and Chrysler should join together; it would keep both long-term companies alive.
We’re being invaded by the Smart Fortwo micro car. Yes it true, Daimler Chrysler has giving us the Smart Fortwo. This car has been in use in Europe for the last 10 years. Now it’s here in the United States, and there’s a 9-month waiting list to get one. This car is only a 2 seater and gets about 33 miles per gallon in the city and 41 on the highway. Those numbers to me don’t compare to safety in my book. Though I’ve heard this car is very safe with new rollover technology built in. I still feel you wouldn’t really have a chance against most trucks on the road. I won’t be getting one anytime soon, but maybe someone out there will. I would say, do your research before you buy any new car or truck.
