State In Trouble

Over the weekend the state of California was unable to pass a budget that would close their $42 billion gap. Now Governor Schwarzenegger will need to layoff about 20,000 state workers. Also, all public works projects will come to a halt. Just by the cuts coming and the halt of projects just show that maybe there is some wasteful spending going on here. That just so happens how the state Republicans feel, but not the Demarcates.
By the numbers, this is what the Demarcates want – $15.1 billion in program cuts $14.4 billion in tax increases and $11.4 billion in borrowing. In my opinion raising taxes never work. The state of California is already losing more people then any other state in the Union. So why in the world would they want to raise taxes on the people and businesses staying? I have no answer to that, maybe some of you do. What I think as well as many others is they need to cut spending and services, all states need to do this. If you ever really look at a state budget for services you would be shocked. We do offer a lot of services that make no since. So Governor Schwarzenegger can start there and bring back services when the tax base calls for it. Seems pretty easy, because it is. The problem is no one ever wants to make the hard choice of cutting those jobs out.
